May 17, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has taken steps to remove the temporary restrictions imposed on social media platforms and messaging apps, the Government Information Department said.

Accordingly public will be able to access Facebook, WhatsApp, Viber and other social media apps.

The government temporarily blocked the social networking sites Facebook, WhatsApp and Viber on the 13th of this month to quell the tense situation arose after a Facebook post sparked anti-Muslim riots.
