* 13 arrested for riots in Minuwangoda to be produced in court today

May 14, Colombo: The 13 suspects arrested following yesterday's violence against Muslim establishments and homes in Minuwangoda and Gampaha areas will be produced before the Minuwangoda Magistrate today.

The suspects are accused of damaging several shops and private property belonging to Muslims.

Police said the 13 suspects were arrested under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). It is prohibited to spread hatred and disunity among communities under the Covenant.

Accordingly, there are legal provisions for the offenders to be sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.

Following clashes that erupted in the area, Police imposed curfew in 14 Police Divisions in the Gampaha District until 6 am today.
