Tue, Mar 26, 2019, 09:19 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 26, Colombo: State Minister of National Policy and Economic Affairs, Niroshan Perera has called for the appointment of a presidential commission to probe Wilpattu issue since some interest groups for narrow political gains are spreading rumors and plotting to grab power.

The State Minister made this request during the budget debate in Parliament today (26).

Speaking further, State Minister Perera thanked the President and the Foreign Affairs Minister for their efforts to "bring our country to an acceptable position."

"Today, a great deal has been done to protect democracy and promote reconciliation. The Foreign Minister has done a great service by rejecting foreign judges and expressing confidence that our judicial system can provide a fair solution."

He said there is an uproar that the government is not taking any action to save Wilpattu but this government has not given even an inch of land of Wilpattu to anyone.

"We see this as a conspiracy to come to power through narrow political objectives. I request to appoint a Presidential Commission to look into the Wilpattu issue to find a solution."

State Minister Niroshan Perera further said that a program should be prepared to provide more infrastructure facilities for the tourists and focus attention to develop the tourism industry.
