* Beliatta PS Opposition Leader succumbs to gunshot injuries

Mar 22, Colombo: The UNP Opposition Leader of Beliatta Pradeshiya Sabha Kapila Amarakoon, who was found shot and seriously injured on Wednesday, has succumbed to his injuries at the Karapitiya hospital early this morning (22).

The 44 year old father of two was shot in his house in the early morning of Wednesday. A relative has found the seriously injured lying on the bed and rushed him to the Tangalle Hospital.

He was later transferred to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

It was reported that the deceased PS member had been living alone in his house in Modarawana, Pallattara.

The Galle magistrate is to visit the Karapitiya Hospital today and hold the preliminary magisterial inquiry into the death.

Beliatta Police is conducting investigations into the incident.
