Mon, Mar 18, 2019, 11:48 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 18, Colombo: Electricity supply in many parts of the country has been obstructed due to the failure of a generator in the Lakvijaya coal power plant in Norochcholai.

The second generator of the three generators of the power plant has failed and in order to ascertain the problem and to maintain the equilibrium of the power grid, power had to be cut to certain areas, the Ministry of Power and Energy said.

The CEB Spokesperson Sulakshina Jayawardhana said the tests to ascertain the cause of the generator's mechanical fault have been completed by now and by night the power would be fully restored.

Meanwhile, power interruptions will happen in certain parts of the island to maintain the equilibrium of the high power grid, he said.
