Mar 17, Colombo: State Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Dilip Wedaarachchi has instructed heads of all institutions of the Fisheries Ministry to strictly enforce the law against those who misuse public property.

State Minister emphasized that all heads of institutions should ensure that public property is not used in accordance with the requirements of individuals.

The State Minister instructed the officials to report such abuses to the Attorney General and enforce the law to the maximum. If there is a delay in law, the officials were instructed to seek assistance from private lawyers to protect the public property.

The instructions were given by the State Minister Wedaarachchi at a meeting with all the heads of the institutions of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development.

At the meeting, which was called to review the activities of the institutions during the last month, heads of the institutions complained that some individuals and groups are misusing the resources and property of some institutions and as a result, the institutions are losing a huge income.

The State minister instructed the heads of the institutions to immediately take all the state properties and resources under their control and use it for public service.

State Minister Wedaarachchi stressed that he has no intention of engaging in other activities using his position for narrow political objectives.

He further emphasized that his intention is only to support fisher folk and serve the fisheries industry and therefore, no misdeed will receive his support.
