* Sri Lankan President arrives in Kenya to participate in UN Environment Assembly

Mar 14, Nairobi: Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya, Wednesday night (13), to participate in the fourth United Nations Environment Assembly.

The President and the Sri Lankan delegation was warmly received by a group of Kenyan government representatives including the Ababu Namwamba Chief Administrative Secretary of the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Simon Kiprono Chelugui Cabinet Secretary for Water and irrigation. Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Kenya, Sunil De Silva also participated at this occasion.

President Sirisena will be participating as a special guest in the fourth UN Environment Assembly that is being held in Nairobi from 11-15 March on an invitation from the Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Sri Lanka's High Commissioner to Kenya, Sunil De Silva said that the participation of President Maithripala Sirisena as the Minister of Environment in Sri Lanka and as a leader who had taken a number of important decisions on protecting the environment is significant.

President Maithripala Sirisena is scheduled to deliver a special speech today at the assembly held under the theme "Innovative Solutions for Environmental Challenges and Sustainable Consumption and Production."

Prominent world leaders, including the Presidents of France and Kenya, Emmanuel Macron and Uhuru Kenyatta, and CEOs from major corporations are attuning the conference.

During his four-day official visit to Kenya, President Sirisena is scheduled to meet his Kenyan counterpart President Kenyatta.
