Mar 13, Colombo: The second special permanent High Court will be inaugurated under the patronage of Minister of Justice and Prison Reforms Thalatha Athukorala tomorrow (March 14).
The new court set up with three member bench of judges has been established at the Hulftsdorp courts complex.
Speaking to media, Minister Athukorala said as the subject minister her responsibility is only to establish the court while the Attorney General and the chairperson of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption have the responsibility to decide on the cases to be filed in the special court.
The government decided to establish three special high court to investigate serious cases of fraud and corruption that had taken place in the past.
Accordingly the first permanent Special High Court for trials of bribery and corruption and highly complex financial crimes was formally established on 21st August at the Hulftsdorf Court Complex in Colombo 12.
The offences which can be tried by the Special High Court include bribery, breach of confidence, financial misappropriation, financial misuse, money laundering for terrorism, organized crime, and misuse of public property.
