* Sri Lanka estate workers to receive Rs. 800 daily wage from 1st April

Mar 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Finance Minister said estate workers will receive a 800 rupees daily wage from the present 700 rupees from April 01st 2019.

He said a Rs. 50 special allowance will be added to the daily wage of the plantation sector workers for a year from 1st of April 2019.

'The wage which stood at 700 rupees was earlier was raised by 20 rupees following the signing of a collective agreement and now with all other additions will be 800 rupees inclusive of EPF and ETF deductions.'

The decision was made following talks with the Tamil Progressive Alliance parliamentarians Mano Ganesan, V. Radhakrishnan and Palani Digambaram and Plantation Industries Minister Naveen Dissanayake.

The Minister said batter working conditions and making the estate workers stakeholders of the industry is a must and within this year, a total reform and restructuring program will be carried out.
