* Police recover 150 kg of heroin and T-56 ammunition during raid of robbery suspect's house

Mar 11, Colombo: The Special Task Police today found 150 kilograms of heroin and live ammunition during raid of a robbery suspect's safe house at Rawathawatta in Moratuwa and arrested a couple in connection with the contraband.

The Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said the value of heroin seized from the safe house is over 1.8 billion rupees.

SP Gunasekara said that this was the third safe house used by the suspect Kelum Indika Sampath alias 'Kewuma' who is currently in remand in connection with the robbery of a diamond worth more than five billion rupees.

In addition to the heroin, the Police have recovered two pistols, 3000 T-56 ammunition, automatic shot-gun, various live ammunition, SIM cards, mobile phones, wigs and many other items during the raid of the suspect's safe house.

The suspect has rented the raided house from June 2018 on a monthly rent of Rs. 25,000, Police Spokesman said.

STF Commandant Senior DIG M.R. Latheef said they suspect that the house was one of the safe houses belonged to underworld kingpin Makandure Madush who was arrested in Dubai.
