* Train engine drivers' strike ends
Sat, Mar 9, 2019, 01:03 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 09, Colombo: The strike launched by the train engine drivers and guards from Friday midnight has been suspended following discussions with authorities. Accordingly, the train control room stated that the trains will be operating as usual.

Many office trains and intercity trains were not operating this morning due to the strike, mostly inconveniencing those who were commuting to work. However, some slower, short-haul office trains have been added to the service.

Locomotive Engine Drivers Union Secretary Indika Dodamgoda said that the strike was suspended after the General Manager of Railways agreed to provide them an opportunity to discuss their issues.

Dodamgoda said that there were a number of demands to be addressed including the release from the responsibilities of junior staff boards.

However, it is reported that General Manager Railways Dilantha Fernando has resolved the problem. Accordingly, the train service has resumed normal operations.
