June 17, Colombo: Commander of Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake says that there are no racial, religious or caste differences in the Sri Lanka Army.

Speaking at an event held today (June 17) to donate two ultrasound scanners worth Rs. 10 million to the Maharagama Apeksha Cancer Hospital, Lieutenant General Senanayake said there are 700 Muslims, 1600 Christians and about 200 Hindus in the active duty of the 200,000 strong Sri Lanka Army.

He said although 99 percent of the Sri Lanka Army is Sinhalese Buddhists, there is whatsoever no difference based in race, religion or caste and facilities have been provided equally for everyone to observe their own faith.

The Commander emphasized that the current Army is much different from the past and has reached a high standard professionally.

The Army Commander as the Chief Guest of the event formally handed over the much-needed two Samsung HS40 Ultrasound Scanner Units, purchased from the day's pay of Army personnel to the Dr Wasantha Dissanayake, Director, Maharagama Apeksha Hospital.

The scanners, which can be used to diagnose cervical and kidney cancers, will be delivered to Ward No. 3 where the female patients receive treatment and Radiology Division.

Senior Army officers and hospital staff participated in the event.
