June 14, Colombo: Singapore expressed its appreciation to Sri Lanka for its assistance in combating global terrorism and assured to support the island nation's counter terrorism efforts.
Foreign Affairs Minister of Singapore Vivian Balakrishnan meeting with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that Singapore would assist Sri Lanka in its efforts to curb terrorism.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is currently in Singapore for a three-day official visit, Thursday (13) called on Singaporean Minister for Home Affairs and Law K. Shanmugam and Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.
During the meeting with Minister Balakrishnan, Prime Minister exchanged ideas on curbing global terrorism and collective steps need to be taken for counter terrorism.
The Premier also held discussions with Minister Shanmugam on the matters concerning social, economic and political interests and on how counter-terrorism measures could be collectively implemented by both countries.
Minister Shanmugam appreciated Sri Lanka's efforts to transform the Indian Ocean into a free and open area without clashes, has assured that Singapore would assist Sri Lanka in its efforts to establish peace in the Asian region.
Sri Lanka’s non-resident High Commissioner to Singapore Chandra Das was also present during the meetings.
