Wed, Jun 12, 2019, 07:52 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

June 12, Colombo: A Special Transport Plan for the Poson Festival will be implemented under the supervision of the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Arjuna Ranatunga.

The program, jointly organized by the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), the Sri Lanka Railway Department and the National Transport Commission, will be in operation from June 14th to 18th morning for the convenience of devotees travelling to Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Thanthirimale from Colombo and other main towns.

Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Transport Board has deployed 600 buses covering Rajarata, Colombo, Kandy, Gampaha and North Western areas for the Poson Festival. In addition to these buses, the SLTB has additional buses ready to be used at any time when needed.

Several new routes have also been introduced this year. Accordingly, new routes have been added from Kantale to Seruwawila, Mahiyanganaya to Anuradhapura, Anuradhapura to Mihintale and Anuradhapura to Thanthirimale.

A special bus service will be operating from Anuradhapura Railway Station to the Mihintale Temple.

Earlier the Anuradhapura was the destination for the inter-provincial private bus services. However, arrangements have been made to operate Poson bus services from various parts of the island to Mihintale, according to the Chairman of the National Transport Commission Janaka Mallimarachchi.

Meanwhile, special train service will be operated between Anuradhapura and Mihintale for the Poson season from the 14th afternoon. In addition, special trains have been deployed from Colombo Fort to Anuradhapura, Mahawa to Anuradhapura, and Anuradhapura to Beliatta.
