Tue, Jun 11, 2019, 10:00 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

June 11, Colombo: All Muslim Parliamentarians who had resigned from their Ministerial portfolios met with the Chief Prelates of the Asgiriya and Malwatte Chapters in Kandy today (11) to explain their collective decision to resign.

The Muslim MPs met with the Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter Most Ven. Warakagoda Gnanarathana Thera and the Mahanayake of the Malwatte Chapter Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera.

The chief prelates of three main Buddhist chapters recently requested the former ministers to return to the administration and resume their responsibilities.

Former Minister Rauff Hakeem in a Tweet said the MPs were elated to have had this opportunity to appraise the Chief Prelates on the reason for their collective resignation.

The Muslim MPs have told the chief prelates that they resigned to resolve the communal issue that had arisen after the Easter Sunday attack.
