June 11, Colombo: The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has informed the Colombo Magistrate's Court that the investigations into Chief of Presidential Staff, IHK Mahanama and former Chairman of State Timber Corporation Piyasena Dissanayake will be concluded and charges would be brought against them.
When the case against the two former government officials was taken up today before Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne, the officers of the Bribery Commission informed court that the investigations had been completed.
The Bribery Commission informed the court that charges would be brought against them.
After considering the submissions, the Magistrate ordered the case to be called again on the 10th of September.
The Magistrate directed the Bribery Commission to report the progress of the investigations at the next hearing.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested the two officials on 3rd May 2018 while accepting a bribe of Rs 20 million from an Indian businessman.
