* Many projects implemented under guidance of Plantation Minister to boost rubber industry

Jan 17, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Minister of Plantations Industries and National Organizer of the United National Party (UNP) Navin Dissanayake today handed over appointments to 56 newly recruited Rubber Development Officers with the aim to boost the rubber industry in the country.

The ceremony for awarding appointment letters to 56 newly recruited Rubber Development Officers for the Rubber Development Department was held on Thursday (17th January) under the patronage of the Plantation Industries Minister Navin Dissanayake at the Ministry Auditorium in Sethsiripaya, Battaramulla.

Graduates and Higher Diploma holders of Agriculture were recruited for these positions.

Several projects have already been implemented under the guidance of the Minister to expand and develop the cultivation of rubber, a major export crop.

Establishment of free trade zones for rubber, expansion of high yield rubber plant cultivation, introduction of new technology to the rubber related industry, export of value added local rubber products to the overseas market are some of the implemented projects.

New recruitments of Rubber Development Officers were made to fulfill the human resource requirements of this island wide development plan.

State Minister of Plantation Industries Wadiwel Suresh, Secretary to the Ministry JA Ranjith, Director General of Rubber Development Department RB Premadasa, Heads of the Rubber General Secretariat, Heads of the Rubber Research Institute, heads of the National Plantation Management Institute and the Smallholder Tea and Rubber Revitalization (STaRR) Project leaders also participated in the occasion.
