* CAA seizes milk powder stock for animal feed while being repacked for human consumption

Jan 12, Colombo: A stock of milk powder released from the Ambewela Milk Powder factory as animal feed was seized in Kuliyapitiya while being processed for human consumption. The raid was conducted by officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA).

The Ambewela factory has reported to have sold 720 metric tons of milk powder to a private businessman. The entrepreneur has brought 200 metric tons of milk powder to his storage where animal feed is being produced, and packed the milk powder in sacks under forged labels.

The Consumer Affairs Authority says that 40 metric tons of the unsuitable milk powder have already been issued for the manufacturing of yogurt, ice cream and biscuits.

The remaining stock has been apprehended by the Consumer Affairs Authority.

According to the Consumer Affairs Authority sources the value of the entire stock exceeds one billion rupees.
