* Minister condemns protests against media institutions

Jan 11, Colombo: Dr. Harsha de Silva, Non-Cabinet Minister of Economic Reform and Public Distribution yesterday condemned a protest campaign by a group of persons clad in black against some private media institutions.

Speaking in parliament, Minister Dr. de Silva said the government opposes persons clad in black and faces covered protesting and threatening media institutions, He said the government condemns the protest by a group of people in front of a media institution on Thursday.

The Minister said that if newspapers have done anything wrong, complaints could be lodged with the Press Complaints Commission. It is not acceptable for people to harass media institutions instead, the Minister added.

Group of persons clad in black and calling themselves civil activists protested outside the Sirasa media of Capital Maharaja Organization, Hiru and Derana media institutions.
