* Sri Lanka Speaker leaves for Malta to attend Commonwealth Speakers' Conference 2019

Jan 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Speaker Karu Jayasuriya left for Malta yesterday (Jan 07) to take part in the Commonwealth Speaker's Conference for 2019.

Mr. Jayasuriya is scheduled to hold a decisive discussion with the Secretary General of the Commonwealth and the Westminster Foundation which has been providing extensive support to the Sri Lankan Parliament on the 2019 program.

During the past three years, at the request of the Speaker, the Westminster foundation had provided an opportunity for the members of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA), parliamentarians and senior state officials to take part in a number of training programs on the British parliamentary tradition.

A special welcome and banquet are also organized in the British Parliament for the Sri Lankan Speaker, the Speaker's office said in a press release.
