* Suspect arrested for setting fire to dog in Negombo

Jan 05, Colombo: Negombo Police have arrested a suspect in connection with setting fire to a pet dog recently at a house in Negombo and killing the animal inhumanely.

A 38-year-old man has been arrested in Periyamulla for burning of a Labrador-type dog kenneled at a house at Koppara junction in Negombo on the night of December 31, 2018.

The suspect has doused the kenneled pet dog named 'Charlie' and his kennel with a flammable liquid and set fire. The severely burned dog later succumbed to its injuries.

The arrested suspect will be produced at the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today (5). Negombo Police are conducting further investigations.
