Jan 04, Colombo: A Sri Lankan court today ordered the convener of 'Voice Against Corruption' Namal Kumara, the police informant, who revealed an alleged plot to kill President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, not to make any statements to media about the alleged VIP assassination plot.
The Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake issued this order on a request submitted to the court by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that Namal Kumara commenting to the media is an obstacle to the investigation into the alleged plot.
Considering a request made by the CID to issue an order to the media institutions to provide the statements made by the complainant regarding the incident from the date the complaint was directed, the magistrate ordered the heads of the media institutions which published his statements to provide the relevant information to the CID.
The CID also informed Court that Namal Kumara commenting to media from time to time in response to the investigations is a hindrance to the investigations.
The Magistrate refused a request made by the CID to release the two LMG firearms seized from the custody of the former director of Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) Deputy Inspector General Nalaka de Silva to the Special Task Force (STF).
The Magistrate pointing out that the weapons that were in the custody of a former police officer should not be released to the same institute he served, ordered to detain the two firearms at the same place where they are kept now.
The Magistrate ordered the CID to conduct the investigations and report to the court on the 16th of this month.
