Feb 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka's police on Monday have raided a large scale cannabis cultivation illegally grown in a home garden in Panangoda area in Marawila and arrested the owner.
The Marawila Police acting on information received have raided the cannabis cultivation grown in an eight acre plot in an isolated location.
The suspect has obtained the land few months back on a lease claiming to cultivate vegetables and fruits.
The police found 1,100 cannabis plants grown in flower pots in a section of the land covered with nets.
The police say the cannabis plants were grown as hybrids using chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Premiminary investigations have revealed that the cannabis plants were specially grown to produce Kerala Cannabis.
The suspect is a 35-year-old resident of Katuneriya. The suspect is to be produced before the Marawila District Court today.
