* Rathgama businessmen were killed and burned, 15 police officers transferred to ensure impartial investigation

Feb 22, Colombo: The investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) have revealed that the two abducted businessmen from the Ratgama area had been killed and their bodies were burned.

Police spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the murder had taken place in a house of the Gonamulla area in Akmeemana and the bodies were burned in a forest reserve in Medagamgoda, Walasmulla.

The spokesman said 15 police officers including the Officer-in-Charge of the Special Crime Investigation Unit of the Southern Province have been transferred in order to conduct an impartial investigation.

Meanwhile, Galle Magistrate today inspected the house in the Akmeemana area suspected to have been used for the detention and murder of the two businessmen from the Ratgama area.

This house is situated in a shrub area in the Gonamulla area in Akmeemana. It is suspected that the house had been abandoned for some time. Investigations have found evidence to indicate that the two businessmen had been brought to the location and thereafter murdered.

Accordingly, the Galle Magistrate examined the house.

Special Crime Investigation Unit Police Inspector Kapila Nishantha de Silva was arrested on in connection with the abduction of the victims on February 18th and remanded until the 27 of this month. Another Sub Inspector identified as 26-year old H.G.V. Madushanka has been arrested on suspicion yesterday.

The businessmen, Manjula Asela Kumara (33) and Rasin Chintaka (31), residents of Ratnaudagama, Boossa have been taken by a group arrived in a car and a van around 10 am on 23rd January.

The CID is pursuing investigations into the abduction upon the directives of IGP Pujith Jayasundara.
