Feb 21, Colombo: Sri Lanka's nationwide inflation in January 2019 determined under the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) rose to 1.2 percent from 0.4 percent recorded in December 2018 on a year-on-year basis, the Department of Census and Statistics reported Thursday.
The NCPI for all items for the month of January 2019 marginally increased to 127.3 from 127.1 in December 2018.
The increase in the index point by 0.13 percent was due to the increases of expenditure value of food items by 1.05 percent and decreases of non-food items by 0.93 percent.
Year-on-Year inflation of food group has decreased from 4.5 percent in December 2018 to ‐4.8 percent in January 2019 and that of non‐food group has increased from 4.7 percent to 6.5 percent during this month.
Contributions to the inflation in January 2019 from food group and non-food group are -2.24 percent and 3.46 percent respectively.
The moving average inflation for the month of January 2019 is 1.8 percent. The corresponding rate for the month of December 2018 was 2.1 percent.
