* Indian Coast Guard apprehends 25 Sri Lankan fishermen

Feb 19, Colombo: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has apprehended 25 Sri Lankan fishermen and their boats for illegally fishing in Indian waters, according to a Times of India report.

Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Shaurya on a routine surveillance deployment in the Bay of Bengal on Monday apprehended 25 Sri Lankan fishermen and their five boats while they were illegally fishing in the Indian waters about 50 nautical miles off Vedaranyam coast of Tamil Nadu.

According to the ICG, the Sri Lankan fishermen had a total catch of around 4,200 kg onboard at the time of arrest.

All the apprehended boats have been brought to Karaikal harbour for a joint investigation by the relevant security agencies and were handed over to Marine Police, Vedaranyan, Tamil Nadu on February 19.
