* Sri Lanka Navy's Sayurala takes part in multi-nation naval exercise AMAN-19 in Pakistan

Feb 17, Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy's Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel (AOPV), SLNS Sayurala left the country from the Port of Colombo on 2nd February to take part in AMAN 2019, the biennial multi-national naval exercise hosted by the Pakistan Navy.

The multilateral naval exercise AMAN 2019 was held in Karachi, Pakistan from 08th to 13th February, with the participation of 44 countries along with a large number of ships and air craft belonging to them.

The purpose of the exercise was to promote cooperation and interoperability between the regional and extra regional navies. The concept of exercise was designed to provide common forum for information sharing, mutual understanding and identifying areas of common interests.

Further a number of naval exercises including response tactics, techniques and procedures against asymmetric and traditional threats at sea, search and rescue drills and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) programs had been practiced as part of the exercise. The crew of SLNS Sayurala keenly took part in all these exercises honing their skills further, the Navy Media said.

After the completion of the exercise on 14th February, SLNS Sayurala has now reached the port of Abu Dhabi. The ship is expected to set sail on 22nd February to arrive in Sri Lanka by 28th of this month.
