* CID uncovers connection between DIG Nalaka, Singer Amal and underworld leader Madush
Wed, Feb 13, 2019, 11:12 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 13, Colombo: The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has informed the court today that popular singer Amal Perera had connections with former DIG Nalaka de Silva, who has been arrested over the plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

The CID informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake that investigations are being conducted through international police to ascertain the nature of former DIG's association with singer Amal Perera, who was recently arrested along with the underworld leader Makandure Madush in Dubai.

The Criminal Investigation Department revealed this when the case against Nalaka de Silva was taken up for hearing at the Colombo Fort Magistrate today (13).

The CID told the court that they expect to seek assistance of the Interpol to record statements regarding the relations between the former DIG Nalaka de Silva and the suspects arrested in Dubai and necessary steps are being taken at present.

According to the CID, popular singer Amal Perera has visited former DIG Nalaka de Silva's office on July 21, 2016, and the police constable on duty at the time of the meeting has made an inquiry into the meeting.

DIG Nalaka Silva, who was angered by the constable's inquiry, has conducted a disciplinary inquiry against the constable. The constable has been given training and punishing duties and transferred to Mount Lavinia Police, the CID told the court.

Accordingly, the Criminal Investigations Department has verified information that Amal Perera had a strong relationship with Nalaka Silva. The connection between the former DIG and the drug racketeer Makandure Madush will also be investigated, the CID informed.

The Court further remanded the former DIG Nalaka de Silva and Indian national Marceli Thomas, who was arrested for involvement in the alleged VIP assassination plot, until 27 February.
