Thu, Feb 7, 2019, 10:08 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 07, Colombo: General Secretary of the United National party and Minister of Education, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, said that the proposal on the establishment of the National Government would not be presented to Parliament today as expected for debate.

A decision has been taken at the party leaders' meeting yesterday to present the proposal for the formation of a national government for debate today.

However, the government will continue discussions to establish a stronger national government and the proposal will be presented to Parliament within the next few days, Minister Kariyawasam said.

The primary objective of establishing the national government is not to increase the ministerial portfolios but to establish a more stable and stronger government in order to create a climate to provide public service without hindrance in the future, the UNP General Secretary said.

Accordingly, the presentation of the proposal to establish a national government will be delayed for few more days, Minister Kariyawasam added.
