Feb 06, Colombo: Security at Sri Lanka ports has been strengthened, as raids to nab drug smugglers are being carried out throughout the country, Minister of Port and Shipping, and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayake said today.
Minister Ratnayake said he has instructed the officials of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority to function in coordination with the Customs and the Police, to strengthen security arrangements at ports. The Minister has instructed the officials to prepare a new security plan in accordance with the current situation in the country.
In addition, the Minister said, all transactions of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) should take place, in accordance with tender procedures and the laid down procurement procedure to maintain total transparency.
"I have instructed SLPA officials to handle all tenders and procurements in a transparent manner. Due process must be followed with diligence. There is no room for name-trading, unofficial negotiations and underhand deals. Ensuring this is one of my main priorities," the Minister said.
