* Committee appointed to probe injustices in school admissions to grade 1

Feb 05, Colombo: Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has given instructions to appoint a committee to probe irregularities said to have occurred during the process of admission of Grade 01 students to national schools in 2019.

Accordingly, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Padmasiri Jayamanne has appointed a three-member committee to probe the complaints received regarding the school admissions.

The committee is headed by the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Education Hemantha Premathilake. Director of Education, School Activities Branch of Ministry of Education Kamani Perera and Senior Assistant Secretary of the Disciplinary Investigation Branch of the Ministry of Education Chamani Wickramathilake are the other two members.

The Committee is expected to inquire into the complaints received regarding the admission of students to grade 1 national schools this year.
