Feb 05, Colombo: A Sri Lankan underworld leader and a drug lord Madhush Lakshitha alias 'Makandure Madush', who led the organized crime and drug trafficking in Sri Lanka, has been arrested in Dubai.

The underworld Leader was arrested with 24 others including several other organized criminals and a famous singer at a party held at a hotel in Dubai, police sources said.

Police confirmed that notorious underworld criminals and drug traffickers 'Kanji Pani Imran' and 'Keselwatte Dinuka' are among those who were arrested. A popular singer in Sri Lanka Amal Perera, his son, and another Sri Lankan actor are reportedly among the arrested.

It was also reported that the suspects were also in the possession of drugs at the time of the raid.

Samarasinghe Arachchige Madush Lakshitha alias Makandure Madush fled the country after the murder of Danny Hiththatiya, a former chairman of the Southern Development Authority, in 2006. Information revealed that Madush was the main suspects of the murder and he first fled to India in a boat.

Subsequently Madhush has directed local underworld leaders 'Samayan', 'Kos Malli' and others from abroad to organize numerous criminal activities in Sri Lanka. He has also been connected to the shooting of Police Narcotics Bureau Inspector Neomal Rangajeeva.

Makandure Madush was also suspected of trafficking large consignments of illicit drugs to the country from abroad. The police and the security forces managed to expose such acts in the past few months.
