* Britain's Queen congratulates Sri Lanka on 71st Independence Day

Feb 01, Colombo: The Queen Elizabeth II of England has sent a congratulatory message to Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on the occasion of the country's 71st National Independence Day, British High Commission stated in a release.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II issued the following message on the occasion of Sri Lanka's Independence Day:

"It gives me great pleasure to send Your Excellency Maithripala Sirisena my congratulations on the celebration of your National Day, together with my best wishes for the good fortune and happiness of the people of Sri Lanka in the coming year. - Elizabeth R"

Ending133 years of colonial rule, Sri Lanka, then Ceylon, gained independence from the Great Britain on February 04, 1948.

Sri Lanka will mark the 71st Independence Day at a gallant ceremony on Monday, February 4th at the Galle Face Green in Colombo.
