* Plans to produce electricity from natural gas from Mannar basin in four years
Sat, Apr 20, 2019, 10:39 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Apr 20, Colombo: The government has planned to produce electricity from natural gas from the Mannar basin by year 2023, an official said.

Director General of the Petroleum Resources Development Secretariat (PRDS) Vajira Dassanayake said that the tender process for selecting investors to explore and develop the gas exploration blocks of the Mannar basin has been started.

Fuel exploration in the Mannar Basin has already commenced and the Government is preparing for the competitive licensing of Exploration Block M2 in the Mannar Basin.

The Petroleum Resources Development Secretariat in January called for international bids for both the exploration of the block and development of petroleum resources.

The M2 Block covering approximately 3500 square kilometers has two gas discoveries, Dorado 91 H/1z and Barracuda 1G/1, and a number of undrilled prospects, according to the PRDS.

Bids will be closed on May 07, 2019 at 12 noon.
