Apr 20, Colombo: At least 42 individuals including estate workers of the Lakshapana Estate in Nallathanniya and several children have been admitted to the Maskeliya Divisional Hospital due to suspected food poisoning.

The police said seven children and 35 adults who had consumed food given at the annual festival held at the Nallathanniya Hindu Kovil yesterday (19) were hospitalized after they experienced symptoms of food poisoning.

Hospital sources say the patients have symptoms of stomach pain and diarrhea.

According to reports, Kovil's trustees have prepared the packets of food containing rice, dhal, brinjals and pumpkin, and distributed to the plantation workers.

The Maskeliya Medical Officer of Health Office has launched an investigation into the food poisoning incident.
