Apr 19, Colombo: The Chairman of Sanasa Bank at Wigoda in Gampaha has been arrested on suspicion of misappropriating over Rs. 750 million from the funds of the microfinance institution.

The Sanasa Wigoda branch Chairman, who was evading police, was arrested at the parking lot of Sanasa housing complex in Gampaha today (19th) morning on a tip-off.

The 47-year-old Chairman, Sameera Senanayake is accused of misappropriating funds of the microfinance bank and refusing to pay back the depositors.

The depositors of the Wigoda Sanasa Bank accusing the Chairman of fleecing from depositor funds protested earlier this year demanding that deposits worth Rs. 750 million be handed over to them immediately.

The suspect has been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department for further investigations.
