Apr 19, Colombo: The Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Minister of Housing and Construction, Sajith Premadasa today laid the foundation for the construction of the 2,126th model village "Sadaa Loka Poojitha Kumar Sangakkara Gama" under the Uda Gammana program.

The model village named after the legendary Sri Lankan Cricketer Kumar Sangakkara will be built at Kendagasmankada in Lunugamvehera in Hambantota district.

Thirty houses will be built in this model village by the Housing Ministry at a cost of Rs. 71.2 million.

Speaking at the event, Minister Premadasa said the government's aim is to strengthen the economy of the people and the development programs are implemented not to fill their purses but to make the people richer.

He said the former cricket captain Kumar Sangakkara became a legend in the cricket sector, especially as a batman not only in Sri Lanka but internationally as well due to his skill, determination, leadership, and humility and the Minister is trying to emulate the great cricketer.

"I am attempting to match Kumar Sangakkara's batting skill in my field. My hope is to hit 'sixes' in the development sector, to enrich the people, to serve the common people," Minister Premadasa said.

State Minister Dilip Wedaarachchi and former Sri Lanka cricket captain Kumar Sangakkara were also present on the occasion.
