Wed, Apr 17, 2019, 10:57 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Apr 17, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Foreign Employment Bureau has facilitated the return of 26 female domestic workers from Kuwait to the island, the Bureau said.

A group of women who had been serving as housemaids in Kuwait returned to the island today leaving their jobs due to ill-treatment by their employers.

The housemaids were accommodated by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait at safe houses after complaints of being subjected to various forms of harassment including the non-payment of the wages by their employers.

The women arrived today thanked the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait and the Ambassador for facilitating their safe return.

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment has provided the transport expenses for the women to return to their respective homes

Despite the reports of women working in Middle East are being harassed, no reduction is observed in the number of women migrating abroad for unskilled labor.
