* Four nabbed with a stolen gemstone worth Rs. 25 million

Apr 15, Colombo: Four persons suspected of stealing a gemstone worth Rs 25 million from a gem merchant have been arrested with the stolen gemstone in Homagama area yesterday, the police media office said.

The arrest was made by the officers of the crimes investigation division of Peliyagoda Western Province (North) following a lengthy investigation into a complaint received by the Negombo police station.

According to the police, the complaint says that the suspects on the 24th of March have stolen the gemstone, which was brought to a hotel in Negombo for sale, abducted the owner and robbed the owner of the gemstone and Rs. 50,000.

The suspects aged 32, 34, 39, 48 are residents of Waikawala, Homagama, Bangadeniya and Wadumunnegedara areas.

The suspects are to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate's Court.

The crimes investigation division of Peliyagoda Western Province (North) in is conducting further investigations into the incident.
