* SriLankan Airline employee nabbed attempting to smuggle gold worth Rs. 32 million

Apr 11, Colombo: Sri Lanka Customs officers have arrested a staff member of SriLankan Airlines at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today while attempting to smuggle out 4 kilograms of gold biscuits from the airport.

The Airline employee was arrested when he was attempting to leave through the Customs Narcotics Bureau gate with the gold biscuits.

The suspect reportedly had tied 40 gold biscuits each weighing 100 grams packed in 4 strips of 10 around his legs and concealed them by wearing socks and shoes over them.

The smuggled gold biscuits is estimated to worth Rs 32 million.

The 22-year-old employee of the SriLankan Airlines is a resident of Wattala.

Customs officials attached to the BIA are conducting further investigations.
