Sept 22, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena will leave today (22) for the United States to attend a number of international meetings including the 73rd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which is being held at the UN Headquarters in New York.
President Sirisena is scheduled to attend the high-level event on Monday, 24th September on the "Global Call to Action on the World Drug Problem. On the same day, the President will also attend the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit: UNGA High-level Plenary on Global Peace at the UN Headquarters in New York. He is scheduled to address the summit.
The President will address the UNGA high-level debate on Tuesday 25th September, on the first day of the debate.
On Wednesday, 26th September, the President will join a special program on tuberculosis and later he will be joining the signing of a new grant agreement with the UNDP on Sri Lanka.
President Sirisena will join a discussion to be held on the 27th to review the success of the measures taken to prevent non-communicable diseases in the international arena, and will also make a special statement at that time. On Thursday, he will attend a program on the adverse effects on narcotics.
