* AG orders to file case against MP Vijayakala Maheswaran in Appeals Court

Sept 08, Colombo: The Attorney General has advised the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara to take legal action under the Penal Code against UNP parliamentarian and former state minister Vijayakala Maheswaran over her controversial statement on the LTTE.

The Attorney General has instructed the Police to file a case in the Court of Appeals against MP Maheswaran under the Section 120 of the Penal Code.

Speaking an event at the Veerasingham Hall in Jaffna on 2nd July, Maheswaran has called for the reorganization of the outlawed terrorist group LTTE in order to curb the rising crime in the North.

The UNP Jaffna district parliamentarian resigned from her post of State Minister of Child Affairs on 5 July due to the criticism generated by her statement.
