* Speaker says Parliament will be in session on Sept. 5, 6

Sept 04, Colombo: The parliament will not be postponed on the 5th and 6th as some media reports have claimed, the Speaker's media office said in a statement.

It is totally inaccurate that the information given in some national newspapers on Sunday, September 2, 2018, that the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya was advised to postpone Parliament on 5th and 6th of September 2018, the statement said.

Such advice has not been given to the Speaker by the President Maithripala Sirisena or any other party to postpone the sittings scheduled for tomorrow and the day after.

The Speaker has not made any statement that he has received such instructions at the Party Leaders' meeting or any other place.

Also it has been stressed that no need has arisen to postpone the parliamentary sittings on the said two dates.

Several political columns in the Sunday newspapers stated that the Speaker has received instructions to postpone Parliament in the wake of the protest organized by the joint opposition on the 5th.
