Oct 27, Colombo: The government of China has extended congratulations to the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa, the state media reports.

Chinese Ambassador in Sri Lanka Cheng Xueyuan has called on Mahinda Rajapaksa's residence at Wijerama Mawatha in Colombo this evening and presented a congratulatory message from the Prime Minister of China, Li Keqiang.

The Chinese ambassador assured that China will provide immense support for Sri Lanka's future development activities.

In a shocking move that stunned the country Friday President Maithripala Sirisena ousted Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and swore in Rajapaksa as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
