Fri, Oct 26, 2018, 12:38 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 26, Colombo: Thalangama Police say that two persons were arrested for operating a drone camera and photographing Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake's home on Parliament Road and the surrounding area.

The subsequent investigations have revealed that they are a Forest Conservation Department officer and a drone camera operator. They are to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court today (26).

UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake yesterday complained in Parliament that a drone was unlawfully hovering over his residence.

The parliamentarian's security officers have observed the drone flying over the house and questioned the persons who were operating the camera. The security officers have informed the police and the police have arrested the two persons for flying the drone unlawfully.

It has been revealed that the drone camera has been used to photograph the area for a planting program implemented by the Forest Conservation Department.

While permission from Civil Aviation Department is required to operate a drone and the police should be informed, the suspects have not obtained any permission to operate the drone in the high security zone where the MP's residence is located.
