Oct 22, Colombo: The ninth annual International Maritime Conference 'Galle Dialogue 2018' organized by the Sri Lanka Navy under the patronage of the Ministry of Defense, commenced in capital Colombo on Monday with the participation of representatives from 50 countries.
Sri Lanka President inaugurated the two-day conference, held for the 9th consecutive year, under the theme “Synergizing for Collaborative Maritime Management”.
Representatives from 50 countries and 17 organizations and foreign scholars and experts in maritime are participating in this event.
The annual conference is held to provide a common platform for national and international stakeholders to discuss and deliberate maritime related issues and aims at enhancing the cooperation of maritime security and sharing of knowledge and information among them.
With renewed focus on Indian Ocean affairs, the Galle Dialogue 2018 is looking at offering a forum for regional and extra-regional players to express their maritime vision and management, discuss the concerns, and better understand each other.
A special memento was presented to the President by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe.
Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe, State Minister of Defense Ruwan Wijewardene, Secretary to the Ministry of Defense Kapila Waidyaratne, the Chief of the Defense Staff, Tri-Service Commanders, IGP and others were present on this occasion.
