Oct 18, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera says the government is pursuing long term policies to guide the country along the right path.

However, the Opposition is engaged in efforts to spread false information on the economy and certain media institutions are also giving more coverage to such information, the Minister said speaking at a conference today in Colombo.

The Minister noted the government has implemented 47,000 projects at a cost of Rs.20 billion under the 'Gamperaliya' program.

Under the 'Enterprise Sri Lanka' program, more than 27,000 new entrepreneurs have been provided with loans during the last three months, the Minister added.

The Minister said several other Ministries have also launched various projects of this nature.

Minister Mangala Samaraweera said however media institutions do not come forward to enlighten people on the development initiatives of the government.
