* Investigations on a prison head providing special privileges to death row inmate Duminda Silva

Oct 17, Colombo: The Ministry of Justice and Prison Reforms has commenced investigations into a prison head who is said to be providing special privileges to the former United People's Freedom alliance (UPFA) parliamentarian Duminda Silva, who has been sentenced to death and imprisoned in the Welikada Prison.

On several occasions Minister of Justice and Prison Reforms Thalatha Athukorala has received information on the prison official. Accordingly, the Minister considering the information has instructed the officials to carry out this inquiry.

The Minister has received information that this particular Prison official violating the Prison Act has provided certain privileges to Duminda Silva, who was sentenced to death for the murder of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, father of MP Hirunika Premachandra, and four others.
