Oct 16, Colombo: The Office on Missing Persons (OMP) will be holding its next meeting with families of the disappeared and missing from the Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara districts of the Western Province on Tuesday, October 16 in Colombo.
The OMP was established in February 2018 to trace the fate or whereabouts of missing and disappeared persons as identified under the OMP Act and protect the rights and interests of such persons and their families.
The OMP began its outreach program in May 2018, with meetings held in Mannar, Matara, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Jaffna and Kilinochchi.
The OMP will visit other districts over the coming weeks, the Government Information Department said.
The seven commissioners of the OMP met with families of the missing and disappeared, civil society organizations, activists working on the issue of disappearances, the media and the public servants to share the OMP's organizational plan and strategies. The meetings also provided the OMP with an opportunity to hear the public's views in order to incorporate their suggestions in the structure and operations of the OMP.
The meeting in Colombo will commence at 3.30 p.m. and be held at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LIGHT HOUSE) located at No 24, Horton Place, Colombo 07.
