Oct 12, Colombo: Senior Supreme Court judge, Nalin Perera took oath as the new Chief Justice before President Maithripala Sirisena at the President's official residence today, President's Media Division said.
President Sirisena nominated the most senior judge in the Supreme Court, Justice Nalin Perera as the 46th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka to fill the vacancy left behind by the retirement of 45th Chief Justice Priyasath Dep.
The Constitutional Council today unanimously approved President Sirisena's nominee for the post.
Nalin Perera joined the judicial sector as a magistrate and gradually promoted to a Supreme Court judge by the President in 2016.
"My congratulations to the new Chief Justice Nalin Perera, who swore in just a while ago," the President said in a Twitter post.
